Install versions side by side

The setup program installs each version line of YTCC side by side: 1.5.x and 1.6.x can be installed on one server, each in its own folder with its own Windows service, ports and databases. The lines share one PostgreSQL server and can run at the same time, but only one project runs on the computer at a time, in whichever line (see One project per computer). Use it to test a new version, or to upgrade while the old line stays available.

Version lines

A version line is the major and minor version: 1.5.x is the line v15, 1.6.x is v16.

The installations find each other through the list that the setup program keeps in Windows, also when they are under different roots, for example C:\ytcc\v15 and D:\ytcc\v16.

Before you begin

  • The server meets the requirements; PostgreSQL 18 and Node.js are already installed for the first line.
  • You have the setup program of the new line, for example ytcc-1.6.<build>-windows-x64-installer.exe.

Steps

1. Run the setup program of the new line

Run the setup program. On the YTCC on this computer page, the installed lines are listed; choose Install (other installations stay as they are). The folder of the new line is proposed under the root of the other lines, for example C:\ytcc\v16. Continue as in Install with the setup program. The old line keeps running during the installation.

2. Give the new line its own ports

The Pre-flight check compares the ports of the new line with the ports of the other installations. Because the other line uses the default ports, the Ports item is red and the page suggests a free port block with Continue with suggested ports. Click it. The blocks are numbered; the setup program takes the first one that no other installation uses and that is free on the server:

KeyBlock 0 (default)Block 1Each further block

mcp87748874+100
manager50005001+1 (5020 to 5027 are skipped)

The shortcuts of the new line open the interface at its own port, for example http://localhost:8873. Update firewall rules that depend on these ports. The ports can be changed later in Settings › Ports of each line; see Port table.

3. Check the installations

Open the home page of the new line with its shortcut and sign in as root. Settings › YTCC installations on this computer lists both lines with Version line, Version / folder and State, and marks the line you are using this installation; see Which version you are reading.

4. Bring projects into the new line (optional)

A new line starts without projects. Create new ones, import project backups with Import on the home page, or take projects over from the old line as described in Upgrade to a new version and roll back. A project runs in only one line at a time; see Run lock and side-by-side versions.

Result

Each line runs as its own service with its own ports, and its databases carry its own prefix. The other lines are unchanged. Each line starts with Windows through its own service; see Start YTCC with Windows.

Good to know

  • An early installation from before version lines (folder C:\YTCC, service YTCC) uses the database names without a prefix. If its folder is separate, for example D:\YTCC, the new line is installed next to it; if it is in C:\YTCC, it overlaps the default root C:\ytcc and must be removed first, see Remove old installations, then install fresh.
  • Only lines registered by the setup program are listed in Settings and checked for the ports. On the command line, scada-manager list shows the same list and scada-manager ports suggest prints a free port block; see Choosing the version line.
