First start and server administrators
After installation, start YTCC and open the interface. On a new server the interface opens the first-run setup: you accept the licence agreement, create the server administrator account, called root in YTCC, and check the ports. Complete it before you hand the server over.
Before you begin
- YTCC is installed with the setup program: see Install with the setup program.
- Decide the user name and password of the server administrator. The person who completes the setup owns this account.
The sign-in windows later suggest the user name
root, sorootis a practical choice.
Steps
1. Open YTCC
After the installation, the YTCC service, for example YTCC v15, is already running. When Open the user interface now was selected on the last page of the setup program, the interface opens in the browser by itself.
Later, double-click the shortcut YTCC v15 (Edge) or YTCC v15 (Chrome) on the desktop or in the Start menu. It
opens the interface in an application window of its own. If the setup program used a suggested port block, the
interface runs on the port of that block instead of 8773.
2. Open the interface
If no window opened, open a browser on the server and go to http://localhost:8773. By default the interface accepts
connections only from the server itself. See also
Open the interface and choose the language.
On a new server the address changes to /welcome and the First-run setup window opens instead of the home page.
Each time the interface is opened, the server decides whether the setup is still needed. Until it is completed, the home
page does not open.
3. Complete the first-run setup
The setup has three steps. The list on the left shows where you are, and the bar at the bottom shows Step 1 / 3 and the buttons Back and Next. The text next to the buttons says what is still missing, for example Read the agreement to the end.
- Licence agreement: scroll the agreement to the end. Only then can you select I have read and accept the agreement. Click Next.
- Server administrator: enter a Username and the Password twice (Repeat password). The eye button shows what you typed, and Password strength rates the password. The rules below the fields turn green as they are met; the table below lists them. Click Next.
- Ports: check the port of the User interface (browser),
8773, and of the Gateway (signals),8770. Keep the defaults unless another program uses them. Next to each field the window shows Default, Will change or a problem: This port is in use on this computer, Must be between 1024 and 65535, Reserved port with the service that holds it, or Used by another YTCC service with that service. See Ports.
Click Complete setup. The window shows Completing setup… and then Server ready — taking you to the home page. The home page opens, and you are signed in with the new server administrator account.
| Field | Rule |
|---|---|
| Username | 3 to 64 characters: letters, digits, dot, underscore and hyphen. It starts with a letter or digit. No spaces. |
| Password | At least 12 characters, with an uppercase letter (A–Z), a lowercase letter (a–z) and a digit (0–9). It must not contain the user name. |
The server checks the same rules again; the interface only shows them. If you changed a port, the window says Port changes take effect after YTCC is restarted (scada-manager restart). Restart the service YTCC v15 in Services (see The YTCC service) and open the interface at the new port. The shortcuts keep the port of the installation; type the new address in the browser.
4. Choose how to start
On the home page, the Quick start window asks How would you like to start? This is asked only once.
- Start with the sample project installs the sample project that comes with the installation package and opens it. It needs no internet. If the package has several sample projects, choose one in the list below the button. If the installation package has no sample project, the window says There is no sample package in this installation. and this choice is unavailable.
- Start empty closes the window. Create your own project or import a project package. This is the choice for field installations.
The choice is stored on the server, so the window does not appear again, not even in another browser. It appears only while the server has no projects. A setup program that carries sample projects imports them during the installation, so after such an installation the projects are already in the list and the window does not appear.
5. Check the automatic start of the last project
YTCC remembers the project that was started last. When the server or the YTCC service starts again, YTCC starts that project again with its drivers, before anyone signs in. Opening a project in the editor does not start it; see Start, stop and restart a project.
Result
YTCC is running, the interface opens at http://localhost:8773 on the server and the server has its root account. The
session button at the top right of the home page shows the account name; its menu says Server account and Server
administrator.
What the root account is for
The account created in the setup is the root account: the system administrator of the server and the designer of all projects. Root may do everything in every project: create, import, copy and delete projects, work in the screen editor and the configuration editor, manage the users of a project, and operate on the runtime screen. The users you define in a project only operate it: they work on the runtime screen and, with System stop, start and stop the project. See Root, the system administrator.
Root signs in once per browser: the editors opened from the home page do not ask again. Keep the password safe; to reset it, see Recover the root account.
Upgraded servers
The first-run setup appears only on a server without any administrator. On a server upgraded from an earlier version
where a project already had user login, the setup does not appear. Instead, YTCC creates the root account with the user
name root and the password root when the projects server starts. Sign in with it and change the password at once
(session button, Change password). An upgraded server where no project has user login shows the setup like a new
server. See Upgraded servers.
Good to know
- The setup records when the agreement was accepted, which version of the text and by which account.
- The licence text is shown in Turkish when the interface is in Turkish and in English otherwise.
- If the setup was interrupted after the account was created, it cannot be repeated. Sign in with the account from the session button on the home page.
