Operating mode

Each signal is in one operating mode. The mode tells whether the value on screen comes from the device or was set by someone.

Modes

ModeWhere the value comes fromHow it starts and ends
AutoThe device, through the driver. This is the normal mode.
Manual [Field]The device reports that the value was set by hand on site, for example at the RTU or PLC.Set and removed only at the field device.
Manual [SCADA]A YTCC user entered the value.Set and removed by a user in YTCC.
SimulatedA YTCC user set a simulated value.Set and removed by a user in YTCC. Not available on the runtime screen.

A signal in a manual mode is not faulty. Its quality is Good, shown as Good · Substituted for a field manual value and Good · Local override for a SCADA manual value. A simulated value has the quality Uncertain · Simulated.

When a signal returns to Auto, YTCC sends the current value from the device at once.

Who can change the mode

Putting a signal into Manual [SCADA] or Simulated needs the Signal run mode permission. Of the default profiles, pSupervisor, pMaintenance, pEngineer and pAdmin have it; pOperator does not. A reason is required, and YTCC records who changed the mode, when and why in the event log. Some signals do not allow a manual or simulated mode, for example signals that are only written and never read.

The mode is kept when the server restarts. If the driver is not running, the mode is applied when it starts.

Badges on screen objects

Objects bound to a signal that is not in Auto show a purple badge in their top left corner:

BadgeMode
Filled MManual [SCADA]
Outlined MManual [Field]
Dashed SSimulated

If an object shows several signals in different modes, the badge follows this order: S, then filled M, then outlined M. The tooltip lists all signals that are not in Auto. Badges cannot be turned off. They are not drawn in the editor or while the browser has no connection to the server.

Alarms and commands

Manual and simulated values are evaluated by alarms like any other value, and the resulting alarms are marked with their source.

YTCC does not send commands to a signal in Manual [SCADA] or Simulated mode. The command is refused until the signal is back in Auto.
