Page configuration and navigation

Page configuration shows all pages of the project in one table. There you give each page a readable address for links, place it in the display hierarchy and see which pages have broken links or no parent page.

Before you begin

Steps

1. Open the page configuration

Click an empty part of the canvas so that nothing is selected; the PROPERTIES panel then shows the page. Open the PROJECT group and click Page configuration….

The Page configuration window opens with the table of pages on the left, the Navigation tree on the right and the checks at the bottom. Each row has these columns:

ColumnMeaning
PageThe page name. Click it to open the page in the editor.
AddressThe readable address of the page, used in links.
LevelThe ISA-101 display level: 1 · Overview, 2 · Unit / area, 3 · Equipment detail or 4 · Diagnostics / support.
Parent pageThe page one level up in the hierarchy.
LayoutThe named layout of the page, or — None —. See Layouts.
StartThe page the runtime screen opens first. It is the same setting as Start page in the PROJECT group.

Changes are written to the project at once. Each change is one undo step.

2. Give the pages an address

Type the address in Address, for example alarm-summary, and press Enter or leave the box. An address may contain lowercase letters, digits and single hyphens between them, and at most 64 characters. An invalid address gets a red frame. An empty box is allowed: the page can then be opened only by its id.

The grey text in an empty box is the address that YTCC suggests from the page name. To fill in all empty addresses at once, click Generate missing addresses from names at the bottom of the window; the button shows how many pages have no address. Turkish letters are replaced (Alarm Özeti becomes alarm-ozeti), spaces and punctuation become hyphens, and when an address is taken, -2, -3 and so on are added.

With an address, the runtime screen opens the page from a link such as http://<server>:8773/runtime.html?project=<project>&page=alarm-summary. The link keeps working when the page is renamed. See Several monitors for opening a page per monitor.

3. Place the pages in the hierarchy

Choose the Level of each page and its Parent page. A usual arrangement:

  • level 1: one overview of the plant, without a parent page;
  • level 2: one page per unit or area, with the overview as parent;
  • level 3: the equipment pages, each with its unit page as parent;
  • level 4: diagnostic and support pages under the equipment they belong to.

Both columns are optional. A page without a level and a parent page stays outside the hierarchy, so existing projects do not change until you set them.

The Navigation tree at the right is built from the levels and the parent pages. Pages without a parent page are at the top, level 1 first; below each page are the pages that have it as parent. The number before a name is its level, and the start page is shown in bold. Click a name to open the page.

5. Fix the problems the check finds

The bottom of the window lists the problems, or says Checks: no problems. Errors are red and also color the row of the page; warnings are amber. Click the page name of a finding to open the page.

FindingKindWhy it matters
Invalid address: lowercase letters, digits and hyphens only (e.g. alarm-summary)ErrorThe link does not open the page. Also shown for an address longer than 64 characters.
Another page has the same addressErrorA link opens the wrong page. Shown for each page with that address.
The parent page no longer existsErrorThe parent page was deleted.
A page cannot be its own parentErrorThe hierarchy cannot be built.
The parent chain forms a loopErrorPages are each other's parents; the tree shows them at the top.
The parent page's level must be lower than this page'sWarningThe hierarchy is upside down, for example an overview under an equipment page. The levels are shown, for example (3→2).
Level 2–4 page without a parent: operators cannot find the way backWarningThe page has a level but no parent page.
Link to a deleted pageErrorA Navigate to Page action points to a page that no longer exists. The number says how many links.
The start page no longer existsErrorThe runtime screen opens the first page instead.

The links to deleted pages are searched in all pages, symbols, popups and layouts. A finding in a symbol, popup or layout shows its kind and name, for example symbol:Valve, and does not open from the list.

6. Save the project

Close the window with × or Esc and save with Save or Save All in the toolbar. The page configuration is saved with the project, like any other change; see Undo, save and restore.

Result

The pages have addresses and a place in the hierarchy, the Navigation tree shows the structure of the project, and the check lists no errors. A link with ?page=<address> opens the page on the runtime screen.

Good to know

  • On the runtime screen, ?page= accepts the page id as well as the address. If neither matches a page, the runtime screen opens the start page.
